The University
of
Iceland and Reykjavik
University are planning to launch a joint Master's
program in
Language
Technology
next fall. This will be a two year interdisciplinary program
(120 ECTS
credits),
and the students must either have a BA degree in the humanities (languages
and
linguistics) or a BS degree in computer science or related subjects (such as electrical and computer engineering). Students with
background in
the humanities have to take at least 30 ECTS credits in computer
science, whereas students with a background in computer
science
have to take at least 30 ECTS credits in Icelandic language and
linguistics.
Furthermore,
both groups of students take obligatory courses in Language Technology, at least 36 ECTS credits.
They also
have the possibility of taking some of these courses at foreign
universities, especially those participating in the NGSLT.
To
get their degree, the students
must
write a Master's thesis (30 or 60 ECTS credits), which is supposed to be done
in
cooperation with a research institute or a private company working on
language
technology.
